Forest health and fire hazard reduction grants available
Deadline March 15, 2012
OLYMPIA – The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is soliciting project proposals that address forest health issues and reduce the threat of wildfire in eastern Washington. Funding is provided by DNR and by the U.S. Forest Service Wildland-Urban Interface Community Assistance Grant Program.
The projects will implement thinning and other forest management prescriptions to improve forest health and reduce fuel loadings in high-fire-risk areas throughout eastern Washington. Project proposals must be located within high-risk areas identified in DNR’s Forest Action Plan and identified as high priority in a completed Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP). DNR will work with local CWPP groups within several eastern Washington counties to identify and prioritize projects. Project submittal deadline is March 15, 2012.
